Strategic Enterprise Architecture
Strategic Enterprise Architecture defines and describes both the organization’s business model and the technology environment necessary to support it; it outlines the technology standards the enterprise will – and will not – use in achieving its goals; and, it provides the framework for categorizing, analyzing, managing, and rationalizing the applications the enterprise employs in enabling its business model and in executing its strategy. The Business Architecture Capability (Foundation Capability) defines the operating model for the enterprise, which includes strategies, competencies, customers, processes and other elements related to the utilization of technology. It defines the operating characteristics and their interrelationships in a dynamic model used to identify opportunities to enhance business performance. The Technology Architecture Capability (Foundation Capability) is the systematic mapping of the technology required to optimize all elements of the business architecture. It dynamically represents information technology as well as all technologies leveraging the effectiveness, efficiency and reach of enterprise business activities. The Business Technology Standards Capability (Foundation Capability) identifies and defines standards to maximize the reuse of business technology assets. This includes a definition of guiding principles, usage and applicability, and definition of other governance requirements. Standards may include software applications, processes, information architecture, suppliers, etc. The Application Portfolio Management Capability establishes, categorizes and manages portfolios of technology applications, consistent with business technology strategy, target architectures and standards. The Asset Rationalization Capability reduces complexity and cost by providing a repeatable process to manage and optimize technology assets consistent with the business and technology architectures and standards. |
